Led by ace vocalist, Peter Jones, Zoöphyte is a band that authentically melds the boundaries between jazz and ‘pop’ - much in the way that Steely Dan (and the great Donald Fagen) has done for so many years!
Welcome to news of The Spin’s 1st gig at its 10th venue, post the pandemic: we bring our vivacious Spin fare to the Summertown Wine Bar on Tuesday, the 2nd April!
The Spin is truly delighted to welcome to the club for the first time the most rapidly ascending star on the UK jazz scene for many a decade!
Saxophonist Emma Rawicz, at the age of 21, has already released two critically-acclaimed albums of original compositions, has toured all over Europe and has rightly garnered glowing press from respected national publications and broadcasters.
Martin Shaw has wooed and wowed Spin audiences in past years and we expect no less of a response at this gig!
OK, let’s start with this, from a 5-star BBC Music Magazine review:
"Some of the warmest, most heartfelt more-or-less-straight-ahead jazz you’ll hear anywhere”
Yes - in a line, that sums it up! The Spin has been after booking this incredible band ever since hearing their roaring performance at a jazz festival a few years ago.
The Spin welcomes back one of its most popular bands, Time Is Of The Essence, featuring the brilliant saxophonist, Ollie Weston and the outstanding drummer, Rick Finlay.
The Spin presents 7 truly great musicians – all of whom could be star attractions in their own rights. This band features Paul’s original writing – and you won’t hear sharper horn arranging than that which Hoop will be offering!
Ladies and gentlemen, a first for The Spin: we present a band, led not just by one drum maestro - but by two! This band was recently seen by Team Spin in London and was immediately booked for this date, given the quality, vigour - and incredible dynamic range - of the playing.
We kick off the year with a brand new band, set up to celebrate the music of two celebrated jazz pioneers, Dave Brubeck and Charles Mingus. Both of these bandleaders put out ground-breaking albums in 1959: 'Time Out' and 'Ah Um', respectively; it is from these recordings that The BruMing Band are drawing their material.
From the age of 16, Paul Booth has been winning prestigious awards for his exceptional saxophone playing (this first award was for ‘Best Modern Jazz Player’ category on the televised BBC ‘Young Player of the Year’) and has ever since led a flourishing career at the top of all sorts of musical genres.
The Spin welcomes back the saxophonist that The Spin has described many a time as one of their favourite musicians - anywhere on this planet!
This is going to be a very special gig for The Spin, led by the ferociously brilliant tenor saxophonist, Brandon Allen!
